QUICK THOUGHT: Many factors go into determining the
amount you pay for car insurance, such as your gender, age, driving record, and
car make and model. But the most surprising factor that can affect your rate
is, believe it or not, your zip code. Where you live makes a difference in the
amount you pay for your auto insurance. If you live in a highly urban,
lower-income neighborhood, you are far more likely to have a higher insurance
premium. Not only does the type of neighborhood you live in make a difference
(urban vs. suburban, lower- vs. upper-income levels), but where in the state
your city is could affect your insurance rate as well (North, South, East,
West).
READERS, what do you think?
Do you think your auto insurance rates should be based on
where you live? If yes, why?
If not, what should they be based upon?
